 Swinging/Hinged Screen Doors

Sliding screen doors are now much better thanks to pet screen!  There are several types of screen meshes to choose from, like solar screen but the best by far for dogs and cats or any pet for that matter is the pet screen mesh.  It is more than 7 times stronger than regular screen.  We do recommend this for anyone that has a pet that jumps at the screen.

The color charcoal is also somewhat of a sun screen because it blocks some of the harmful sun rays.  So if this sounds like something you might need for your home give us a call or email and we will be happy to answer any of your questions.  Our info is: 818-470-1444

Aluminum and Vinyl Windows

There are hundreds of window manufacturers and just about an equal amount of ways to take screens on and off of them.  My best advice is when dealing with a window that is a vinyl or aluminum the screen will usually come out from the inside, that is you must:

  1. Push the screen frame towards the center of the encasement
  2. Try to push frame up and down to try and make it come loose
  3. Pull in gently from the bottom and that should work.

Dirt and debris will lock screen frame in place, so a good ideal is to use some WD-40 spray in between the screen frame and the window frame to try and make it come loose.

Wood Windows

When your window encasement’s are wood, for example a double-hung window, then putting a screen on and off should be a bit easier.  Wood window usually have hardware on the top and bottom to hold the screen in place, they are called the top jiffy hangers and bottom bail latch.  To put the screen on and if you do have the hardware I just mentioned you have to:

  1. Insert the screen frame in the top jiffy hangers first evenly
  2. once you inserted the screen in the top hardware, push up and make sure the frame is snug
  3. Push frame in from the bottom till it’s flush
  4. Clip in the bottom bail latch and your done

How to clean a window screen

Person cleaning

Have you noticed how bad window screens can get after not cleaning them for a few years.  There is a correct way to clean them and no it’s not hosing them off while standing in front of the window with your hand in your pocket.  If you want your window screens to look like new for years, you’re going to have to spend an afternoon with them at least once a year.

Things you will need to clean them

  • Bucket
  • Large sponge
  • Dish soap
  • Towels (for drying)
  • Hose

How to clean a window screen

We strongly suggest you clean one window screen at a time, because if you don’t and clean them all at once, it will be difficult to find the correct window each screen fits into on the house.

  1. Find a area with grass where your hose can reach.
  2. Go get a screen.
  3. Lay it down flat on the grass.
  4. Put the sponge in the bucket with dish soap and water.
  5. Grab the sponge and while screen lays flat on the grass, scrub it softly with sponge from side to side 2 or 3 times.
  6. Flip screen over and repeat step 5.
  7. Grab hose and rinse it off.
  8. Stand screen up and with a dry towel wipe it dry.
  9. Once you’ve dried it, you’re done with that screen.
  10. Go install it back in the correct window and continue by repeating step 2.

If you have screen doors, follow the same steps and you will have a clearer view and your screens will look and last much longer.

Sliding Screen Doors

Extruded aluminum sliding screen doors

The best sliding screen door for a lot of traffic is the Extruded aluminum sliding screen door, It is heavy duty and extremely sturdy.  You can also get this door in a few different finishes and make sure that it is a baked enamel finish so you can make sure that it will last you for years without chipping or fading.  you can ad a pet door which will protect the bottom portion of the screen from tearing.  this is called a pet protector or pet grille.  Make sure the sliding screen door comes with all metal parts, especially the rollers, handle and lock latch.  One of the key things to look out for is metal ball bearing rollers and a thick frame gauge, if you have this you should be O.K.

Roll form sliding screen doors

Avoid Roll form sliding screen doors like the plague, they will only frustrate you every time you have to open them.  I do not recommend buying these light weight usually made out of tin or steal screen doors.

We offer mobile screen service in the following locations: San Fernando Valley, Malibu and East Ventura County

Window Screen

The main purpose of a window screen is to keep bugs out of your home.  That’s why some people call them insect or fly screens.  There are many types of window screens from metal mesh to the new tight weave fiber glass screening.

Solar Screens

Solar screens are good looking and are great to fight the suns rays.  The special screen mesh is designed to block 70% to 90% of the suns rays, protecting your carpet, furniture and your wallet from the high power bill. The solar screen mesh is made of a very strong screen mesh and is extremely durable.

Retractable and Removable Screens

Retractable window screens are the latest in window screens and work very well for most situations.  They are heavy duty and have a very nice look as-well.  the main purpose of a retractable screen is to fit in areas where a regular screen can’t fit and also for homeowners who just don’t like the old look of window screens.

Window Screens with Hangers

These are for situations where the home has double hung windows and the best window screens installation option is a top and bottom hinge system.

Rescreening

Rescreening your windows can be done very easily and the perfect time is spring. This can change the look of your home and give you a clear view.  The screen which is most popular is fiber-glass screening and is extremely clear to see thru and cleaning it is also done very easily and quick.

There are two mesh colors which are used in just about every job site and that is, gray and charcoal.  The charcoal is what the black mesh is called and the two mesh colors are used to match your homes existing mesh color.  the clearest is the charcoal screen because it does not reflect the light as much as the gray screen.  The suns ray reflect brighter on the lighter gray mesh and this tends to block the view a little more than the charcoal mesh.  Other than a little more reflection they are both excellent screening mesh and last in great condition for at least 7 to 12 years.  So in our opinion fiberglass mesh screen is the best way to go and if you have to pick, go for the charcoal.
